Personal Efficiencies

I can’t even believe the year is ¾ of the way over!  Time flies so dang fast!  I feel like I say that all the time, but it’s just darn true!

This morning I’m in San Diego, I love it here!  I was raised here in my early years and I have so many fond memories!  Maybe one day I’ll return here, who knows!

After coffee this morning, I got to thinking about personal efficiencies.  I love efficiency, sometimes a little too much!  But since I’ve been traveling ALOT lately, I’ve had to come up with some personal efficiencies to keep things straight and not forget important things.  Cause, let’s just be real for a moment, the busier we are, the easier it is to forget things, unless we set ourselves up for success AHEAD of time.  AHEAD of time is clearly the advantage here!

Traveling so much has really gotten me to simplify my life and only worry about the important things and know that the rest can either be bought at CVS or taken care of by someone else.

Have you ever thought about this?  Have you ever had so much going on that you had to “trust the system” that you set in place? I’m totally in a season of life that I have to trust the systems I’ve set in place.

I thought I’d share a few things that have really helped me lately.

  1. I categorize things.  I do this everywhere in my life.  My husband, Tony thinks it’s just a bit Kooky, but hey, I can find things quickly and it works.  He laughs that I keep all my sharpies together and all my #2 pencils together, all my nail polishes together … you get the idea.  When traveling, I tell you,  it’s HUGE.  I have little bags that I keep like items or things for certain tasks gathered together.  Like in my Maren Conrad coy fish pouch I keep all my electrical cords and chargers.  In my pineapple pouch, I keep all things necessary for essential personal stuff like nailfile, hairbrush, girl stuff, lipgloss, etc.  I keep my toiletries packed and don’t unpack that bag.  So it has a complete set of makeup and just the basics that I never unpack and keep it ready at all times when packing it makes it so much easier to know that I’m not forgetting anything because it’s already packed.
  2. I keep things to a minimum.  I don’t overpack.  If I should forget something, Target is just a LYFT ride away! I don’t want to buy something new if I don’t have to, but knowing that I can, takes so much stress of making sure I have everything off my mind.
  3. Audiobooks – call me crazy but not lugging those hardbound books or magazines saves on space and I know, I always have my phone, so I always have my books and magazines at the ready.
  4. Travel documents – I print out and keep all my travel documents in a leather envelope that has everything so that I’m not juggling to find my boarding pass or the hotel address.  I have it all printed out and at the ready.  It gives me peace of mind prior to traveling that I have everything I need in one place.  Even though I do take advantage of digital apps for boarding passes, I still print them out in my envelope so that I’m not stressed is my phone battery dies.
